I can see why the band was popular back then, there's a raw energy and forward momentum to his playing and the music. And big time sloppiness, but it's heavy and fast...

But he dived into a big pool of suckitude as time went on.

bernard, as much as I dislike the guy, I agree - he did have his moments!

I think the main problem is that when you become a Celeb, you start slipping away a bit from your passion/instrument... too comfortable or something, I dunno.

Thanks for these. Although I was never a huge fan I liked the black album and a few other tracks.

I really dig Lars' old playing...from the black album onward I think his playing slumped big time, but the albums before that..."Justice", "Puppets", etc...I think are quite good...especially the "Justice" album is when Lars' playing was at it's peak...there was even some odd time playing on that album...I'm not a fan of his anymore, but he is the guy that inspired me to start playing the drums when I was a wee little lad...
